Land en Boschzigt is a biodynamic farm and market garden, recognized as the oldest of its kind in the Netherlands. Nestled within the woodlands of the ’s-Graveland estates, this farm has been cultivating vegetables, fruit, and herbs since 1947. The farm operates with a commitment to biodynamic principles, avoiding synthetic fertilizers and pesticides to maintain a healthy, vital soil.
The farm offers a self-pick vegetable season, running for approximately 32 weeks from half April to the end of November. Self-pickers can harvest a weekly share of vegetables, as well as small fruit and flowers when they are in season. The pick-up times for members are on Saturday from 10:00 to 13:00, and from Wednesday to Friday from 15:30 to 20:00. In addition to vegetables, the farm features a flower picking garden. The flower picking season typically begins in May or June and runs until September or October.
Operating hours for the farm shop are Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 to 17:00, and Saturday from 9:00 to 17:00. The business is closed on Mondays and Sundays. The farm is located on Leeuwenlaan 30, in ’s-Graveland.
What visitors say
This self-picking farm and garden is widely celebrated for its beautiful, peaceful, and natural setting, frequently described as a relaxing retreat or even a “paradise” in the heart of ’t Gooi. Visitors consistently praise the lovely ambiance, often noting the pleasant outdoor terrace which offers a rustic charm and views over organic fields, sometimes compared to the South of France.
The core appeal lies in its commitment to organic and biodynamic produce. Reviewers rave about the fresh, healthy, and uniquely flavorful vegetables, some of which are not commonly found in supermarkets. Patrons with a subscription can enjoy the “pick-your-own” experience, fostering a direct connection to where their food comes from. On-site, an organic shop provides a wide selection of wholesome products, including bakery items and even wine from their own vineyard, allowing for convenient healthy shopping.
The cafe and restaurant receive high marks for their delicious lunches, often prepared with ingredients sourced directly from the farm. Many commend the coffee and pastries, making it an ideal stop for a pleasant break. The staff are largely described as friendly, sympathetic, and passionate about their work, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. The location is also favored for complementing walks in the nearby forest, and some appreciate its social project aspect, providing opportunities for individuals to engage in farming.
However, a few areas for improvement were noted. Some visitors perceive the prices as high, with one instance citing €16 for two coffees and two small pastries as “abnormal.” There have been a couple of isolated but strong complaints about unfriendly or chaotic service, including an alleged refusal of water to a dog and an elderly couple, and service issues with table ordering. Other suggestions include improving the parking facilities, extending kitchen hours, and offering tea in pots rather than just cups. A very recent review specifically raised concerns about a significant decline in coffee quality, possibly linked to a recent change in hospitality management. Despite these occasional criticisms, the overwhelming sentiment remains highly positive, with many considering it a must-visit for delicious organic food, a relaxing environment, and an overall enjoyable experience.
