Akkerwikke

Akkerwikke

Akkerwikke is a certified organic self-picking farm located in Maastricht, South Limburg, operating on a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model. Members can enjoy a harvest season of approximately 36 weeks, typically from May to December, for vegetables, herbs, and strawberries, and about 20 weeks from June to October for cut flowers.

The farm offers an extensive range of produce for self-picking, including over 60 varieties of organic vegetables and up to 20 types of organic herbs. Fruits available for harvest include delicious strawberries, which are typically ready around June for about six weeks. Additionally, there’s a “candy bush” area where members can pick raspberries, white, red, and black currants, and gooseberries. For flower enthusiasts, an array of organic field flowers is available to create weekly fresh bouquets.

Members access the farm seven days a week between sunrise and sunset. Harvesting is guided by a flag system: red indicates produce for fresh use, yellow suggests moderate harvesting when quantities are limited, and white signifies an abundance, allowing for larger quantities to be picked for processing or freezing. The farm emphasizes a commitment to local, seasonal, and freshly harvested produce, fostering a community connection and offering educational experiences, particularly for children, about where food comes from.

  • 10.9 km — limburg
Lubosch Land is a nature-inclusive family farm located in Ransdaal, Zuid-Limburg, dedicated to sustainable agriculture, biodiversity, and healthy food production. Established in 2021, the farm aims to actively contribute to a more sustainable food chain by working with nature and the local community. The farm features several key areas: A Food Forest (Voedselbos): Planted with numerous trees and shrubs since 2021, this area is designed to produce a diverse range of perennial and woody species, including fruits, nuts, seeds, leaves, and stems. While it will take many years for the forest to fully mature, the first harvests are anticipated after about five years. Currently, guided wild foraging walks are organized where visitors can learn about and taste existing wild edibles. A Market Garden (Tuinderij): Here, annual crops are cultivated entirely without pesticides, following permaculture principles and focusing on soil health. Produce grown includes various vegetables, herbs, flowers, and fruits. Specific items mentioned are collard greens, chard, beans, lettuce, kohlrabi, and different types of cabbage. Additionally, perennial fruit bushes yield redcurrants, gooseberries, Japanese wineberries, and other currants. Natural Farming Project Fields: These fields, established in 2023 and 2024, adhere to “Do-Nothing Farming” principles, emphasizing collaboration with nature and minimal intervention. Produce from the farm’s own land, including unsprayed vegetables and fruits from the market garden, is sold at the Lubosch Land Farm Shop (Boerderijwinkel). The shop, housed in a renovated former cow shed, also offers a seasonal and rotating assortment of other organic and local products like dairy, beverages, preserves, and baked goods. Customers can purchase ready-made vegetable boxes (groentetassen) for 2 or 4 people, filled with seasonal produce. If a specific item is not displayed, the farm team can harvest it fresh for customers.
